Canes open up camp
The 2016 instalment of the MAHS Football Team started Fall Camp on Monday July 25, 2016. 75 Canes went through a spirited week of acclimation in helmets before opening up on Monday August 1, 2016 in full pads. The Canes are working in preparation for their August 18th scrimmage against Cedar Shoals in Athens. The Hurricanes will open up the regular season at home a week later versus in-county rival Loganville.

Former cane football player gallup headed to colorado state
Michael Gallup (2014) is headed to Colorado State to play for former UGA OC Mike Bobo. Gallup just finished his second season at Butler Community College in Kansas. One of the top Junior College Receivers over the last two years, Gallup is expected to help the Rams offense immediately.
Canes get words of wisdom from nfl hall of fame player/coach art shell
The MAHS Football Team got some words of wisdom by an NFL Hall of Fame Player and former coach in Art Shell. The Canes attended an NFL HOF sponsored event at George Walton Academy. Shell who resides in Monroe spoke about character, leadership and integrity to the capacity crown at GWA. This was a great opportunity to start the offseason with the inspirational words.

Monroe JV Picks up 1st win at salem
The MAHS Junior Varsity team traveled to Conyers to take on the JV Team of Salem on Thursday the 17th. The Hurricanes were led by a tough defense that seemed to smother the opponents offense on a regular basis. Offensively, the Canes were led by Sophomore QB Hunter Mitchell who ran like a man possesed. Jakia Thompson and Jerquarious Walton both ran very well to pace a very potent Hurricane Offense. The Canes will be back at home next week to face Newton County.

Monroe Area Outlasts cedar in final scrimmage
The Monroe Area football team concluded their preseason with a home scrimmage versus Cedar Shoals from Athens. The Canes won the game 24-22 to win their 3rd consecutive win dating back to last season. Monroe got a great game out of Senior Kevon Debose who finished with 75 yards receiving on two catches. Defensively, Javion Heard continued to play well with several tackles for loss and two sacks. Monroe Area hosts Loganville next Friday with kickoff set for 7:30pm.

The Monroe Area High School Football Team picked up where they left off last season by defeating Apalachee at the Purple Pit Friday night. In the first of two preseason scrimmages the Canes used a stingy defense to stifle the visitors from Apalachee. The Canes defense forced 7 turnovers including 6 interceptions. On Offense, the Canes were led by senior running back CJ Winding who led off the second drive of the game with a 95 yard touchdown run. The Canes will return home this Thursday versus Cedar Shoals. Game time will be 7:30.

Memorial Day has come and gone and the 2015 edition of the Monroe Area High School Hurricane Football Team has started working in the grueling summer heat in preparation for their Pre-season Scrimmage versus Apalachee.

Monroe Area Junior Wide Receiver Alfred King took part in the exclusive "Opening" Nike Combine held Sunday March 22, 2015 at Buford High School. Some of the nations top players were on hand to go through combine testing as well as position drills and 7 on 7. King is currently competing for the Canes in Track & Field while training for more combines and camps this summer.

Off Season workouts in full swing
The Monroe Area High School Football team has been working this off season to get better four days a week culminating the final week of school. The Canes also have their rising 9th grade players from Carver Middle School in attendance. Below is the schedule for workouts.

Hurricane Players honored at end of season banquet
The MAHS Football team held their end of season banquet earlier this January at Grace Monroe Church in the old mill. Players were honored for their placement on All-Region and All-State Teams as well as individual position and team awards. Junior Wide Receiver Alfred King was named the 2014 Most Valuable Player at the end of the banquet. The most important award of the night went to Junior Linebacker Andy Fielding on winning the Academic Award. Fielding led the team with a 4.1 Grade Point Average.

MAHS Senior Football Players Justin Gibbons (69), Andrew Shoemaker (41), Keion Camp (11), Jermell Brandon (6) and TJ Cox (33) all participated in the 2nd Annual Athens Area FCA All-Star Game played at Clarke Central High School. All players saw significant action in the game. The Canes players came up just short falling in the game 21-19 to the White Squad coached by North Oconee's Terry Tuley. The Blue squad was coached by Cedar Shoals Head Coach Scott Wilkins.

MAHS Hurricanes participated in the Athens Area FCA 7on7 Tournament on Thursday June 25th at Athens Christian School. The Canes faced off against five different opponents finishing with a fantastic record of 3-0-2 on the day. The scores of each individual game are listed below.

king named to preseason aaaa all-state team
The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Georgia Sportswriters Association recently voted on the 2015-2016 Preseason 4-A All-State Team. MAHS Senior Wide Receiver Alfred King was named to the prestigious 1st Team. King and the Hurricanes kickoff the season on August 14th versus Apalachee.
King named to ajc all-state team
Monroe Area HS Junior Wide Receiver Alfred King was recently named to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's All-State Team. King finished the season with 63 receptions for 1,085 yards. The Canes are expecting an even bigger season from King in 2015. Click HERE for the AJC ALL-State Team.
Camp Inks scholarship
Hurricane Senior Football Player Keion Camp has signed a full scholarship to participate in football and track at Reinhardt College in Waleska, GA.
